Wildfires can be caused by a lot of things and they can cause some serious destruction. Wildfires are out of control fires that destroys things as it spreads. It can spread quickly and it can get bigger as to burns. Wildfires can be cause by discarding lit cigarettes, the heat from the sun, a match, a campfire, or a lightening strike. These are just some ways they can occur so you need to watch what you do and watch how dry it gets outside. If it gets really dry outside where you live, be sure to keep your yard as clear of debris like leaves and dead branches as you can.
Wildfires will burn anything in its path and it can leave nothing but ashes behind. It can take days and hundreds of firefighters working around the clock to get a wildfire under control and get it put out. Homes and business that are in the path of wildfires simply because nothing can be done to protect them. Sometimes people can wet down the building and area around it, but this does not always help. Home owners and firefighters will often dig what is referred to as fire line around a home or business to try and stop the fire. When a wildfire gets too close to a home or other building, the people that own it have no choice except evacuate and let it burn. It is terribly sad to watch the flames approaching your home and know there is absolutely nothing that can be done.
Sometimes the area where a wildfire is going on a might not have access to water and this makes it even more difficult for firefighters. They will use an airplane to fly over the area and use a nonflammable chemical and water to get reach the fire in areas where they can not get to with their trucks. The solution they release from their planes is sometimes a combination of phosphate and sulfate fertilizer. They release water from planes too, but this usually only slows the fire down enough to help get it under control.
The smoke from the fires can be just as dangerous as the flames. Smoke from a wildfire can kill wildlife in the area and it can cause health issues for humans too. It can damage homes miles away from the actual flames. People are not the only one to loose their homes. So do the animals that live in the forest that is being destroyed. It can take years for the land to recover and for trees and plants to regrow. People can clear the land and rebuild their homes fairly quickly, but this is not true for wildlife. They have to move on to another area if they survive.
