The outside of your home is obviously the most visible part of your home. And yet sometimes it seems to be the aspect of our homes that we neglect the most. We spend most of our time indoors so it is only natural that we would take better care of the place where we spend the most time. But the outside of your home is very important too. If you are tired of your home’’s boring exterior and have decided it’’s time to make some home improvements, there are many options out there to improve the look of your home. The siding on your home is one of the biggest factors. Here are a few examples of your options for a siding remodel.
One of the most common types of siding is vinyl siding and the biggest reason for this is that it is less expensive that some other siding options. Vinyl siding is made out of polyvinyl chloride plastic or PVC. It is also popular because it comes in a wide variety of colors and therefore requires no painting. Vinyl siding also weathers the elements very well and won”t flake or rot, though in some cases it has been known to crack or fade over the years. Vinyl siding can also come insulated, which helps the energy efficiency of a home.
Another popular option for home siding is a wood clapboard or shingle, usually made of cedar or more specifically, Western Red cider. Many people prefer the timeless look that wood clapboards or shingles offer, and with periodic maintenance they can even outlast vinyl. For best results and to avoid flaking and peeling, it is suggested that a homeowner use a wood stain on the siding instead of a paint. This also helps enhance the natural look of the wood.
Stucco is another one of the most popular home siding options. Stucco is a material made of water, a binder, and an aggregate. It is applied wet and when wet it has a similar consistency to clay before it hardens to a very dense solid. Stucco is especially popular on the West Coast and on Spanish-style homes.
One of the most beautiful and elegant siding options is a brick veneer or brick facing. Unlike regular brick, brick facing is a thinner brick veneer masonry application that can be applied to your existing wall. The brick facing is available in many colors, is very durable, and will give your exterior the classic look of real brick walls. With any one of these options, you can drastically change the appearance of the exterior of your home for the better.
