There are times when we come across some water problems in our homes. Water pipes may burst or leak. Or water might accidentally spill on some of our furniture or the floor. There are times also when the air-conditioning units are not properly installed and can cause some leakage of some sort. All these water related problems might damage our furniture, floorings or walls. They might cause the materials of these things to be spoiled. Worst of all, mold might start to grow because of their damp surfaces which mold does thrive on. So if you do have some furniture or walls that have been damaged by water, here are ways to restore them. If there are any traces of mold, make sure to work on mold removal right away.
For places or furniture damaged by water, make sure that you do check them for mold. If they have mold, start the mold removal by taking out the loose mold around the area. Use mild detergent and water to take it out. After that use a damp cloth dipped in clean water to take out the soap suds. Then wipe the surface dry with a soft and clean piece of cloth.
Get a vacuum cleaner for better mold removal. The vacuum will be able to suck out all the particles left by the mold. If these particles are not removed, the mold can grow back again. After vacuuming, make sure you scrub the infected area very thoroughly with mold cleaner. This will further ensure that any residue or remains of the particles that make up the mold will be gone. Make sure that you dry the surfaces very well then leave them to dry under the sun or make use of an electric fan. Mold removal can greatly be reinforced by making sure that you leave the surface dry.
After this, place a coat of mildew resistant paint over the surface of the wall, ceiling or furniture that needs mold removal. This will make sure that the surface will now have lesser chances of being exposed to mold so you would not need to think much about mold removal.
But if you feel that the damage is too big for you to fix it on your own, get professional help to aid you in eliminating mold in your house. Mold removal is very important because the mold can eat away your furniture and your walls if you do not pay enough attention to it.
But in order to avoid the hassle of mold removal, make sure that you do look after your home. Always make sure that there is a good flow of air inside the house. Open the windows to allow sunlight to enter the house. Make sure that you do not leave wet surfaces unattended. Mold thrives on wet surfaces so if you leave any possible wet spots unattended, you might have to contend with mold removal soon enough. Always remember that prevention is always better than a cure.
