Have you ever wondered why anyone would go to the trouble of having wet paper documents dried and restored by a professional document drying company? It would just be a bunch of wet papers, right? You could just have them retyped and restore them that way, right? Not necessarily. What would you do if you were a large company that housed thousands of paper records and the sprinkler system in the building went off because there was a small fire in a waste basket? What if a natural disaster flood came and the building was standing in six feet of nasty water? What would you do then?
Not all document damage will happen on a scale this huge, but when it does, companies and sometimes even individual home owners must have not only their paperwork, but other important types of records back as soon as possible. Paper is not the only restoration services that document drying professionals offer. There are many other forms of records that can be damaged during a freak accident like a sprinkler mishap, fire, natural disaster flood, a plumbing break, or just long term humidity and moisture that can cause mold.
Other types of records that can be restored or reproduced are computer hard drives, media such as microfilm and microfiche, maps, blueprints, photographs, magnetic and micrographic media, x rays, and books. Any of these things might be a necessity to have restored after a disastrous event. Libraries, doctor, dentist, or lawyer offices, or real estate companies might be some of the places that need mass restoration of documents and media. The numbers of businesses or establishments that can suffer significant losses of important documents and other types of record storage or almost endless.
For the average homeowner, the amount of material that is damaged in a house fire or flood will probably not be as large an amount as a big business or office of some kind, but the loss can be just as difficult to deal with. Old family records, photographs, computer hard drives, treasured books, and other personal documents will be just as important to have restored to these home owners. Many times a home owner will just throw these kinds of materials away because they do not realize that they can have them restored and many times it will be covered under the insurance they have on their home or small business.
It is essential that as soon as possible after you have suffered a fire or other document and media disaster, you need to contact a document drying professional as quickly as possible after the event is over. They will tell you the best way to preserve your damaged items until they can be sent to them or they can send someone out to pick the items up. There are many different restoration processes that they will use to restore different materials. Freeze drying, cryogenic freezing, deodorizing, cleaning, rebinding, and whatever else it takes to restore your materials to the best condition possible.
