Burglary Prevention Is Key To Greater Peace Of Mind

Preventing burglaries should be at the front of any homeowner’’s mind. There are fewer things more personally frightening than knowing that someone with sinister intentions has been or currently is in your private space! If you haven”t given much thought to burglary prevention, perhaps you should. There are many things you can proactively do now, so that you won”t be sorry later.
– No burglar wants to get caught: he doesn”t want to run into you any more than you want to run into him. For this reason, criminals don”t want to take a long time to burgle a home since it increases his chances of being caught; they will also try to invade a home in such a way as to not attract attention from the resident or the rest of the neighborhood.
So, consider implementing measures that will increase attention if a crime is occurring and will lengthen the time it will take to commit the crime: if you do, burglars are more likely to choose another house.
– First of all, invest in a good home security system. Studies have shown that just having the security company’’s signs in prominent places outside a house act as a deterrent to crime. Chances are good that your alarm will never go off because the burglar will simply choose another home to hit: remember, the last thing he wants to do is attract attention by setting off an alarm that will alert the whole neighborhood. Place security signs near the front door, under windows, and by the back entrances.
– One of the favorite entry points for burglars is an unattended window. Since most burglaries are crimes of opportunity, don”t make it easy for a criminal by leaving windows open when you are gone to work. Windows should have security locks, and consider planting uninviting shrubs such as thorny roses or holly underneath. The more barriers you create to forced entry, the better.
– Similarly, you should rethink the types of exterior doors you use. Put yourself in a burglar’’s place: would your doors be simple to kick in? You might want to consider replacing old doors with new steel ones: they are virtually indestructible. Make sure you use a deadlock on your doors and never put locks near a door’’s window where they could be easily accessed.
– Never ever leave your garage door open: it’’s just too easy. Many criminals travel through neighborhood just looking for houses with open garage doors. If you aren”t home, they may just pull in, close the door, and load up your stuff. If you are home, they will steal whatever they can out of the garage: maybe even your car.
It’’s much easier to implement measures to prevent a home burglary rather than to pick up the emotional and financial pieces of your life after a crime occurs. For peace of mind, take the right steps to keep your family safer.
